Privacy Policy

Version 1.0 · effective October 25, 2026 · an earlier version; see the current one

This policy explains what i"Expat Academy" collects about you, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. i"Expat Academy" is a brand of Apollo Consulting Inc., an Illinois corporation, which is responsible for your information ("we", "us").

The site is education, not tax, legal or financial advice (see the Terms of Use). Nothing in this policy changes that.

1. The short version

  • If you use the free tools without signing in, we don't store what you type.
  • If you create an account, we keep your email address, your profile, the numbers you save in the tools, your course progress and your purchases, so the site works for you.
  • We keep a record of which version of the Terms of Use and this policy you accepted, and when.
  • We don't sell your information, we don't use advertising trackers, and we don't share your information with anyone except the service providers that run the site, or when the law requires it.
  • You can download your information or delete your account at any time from your profile page.

2. What we collect

When you create an account

  • your email address, and your password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form that we can't read);
  • your profile choices: destination country, track, US state of domicile, and your own exchange rate if you enter one.

When you use the tools and courses signed in

  • the numbers and options you save in the calculators: for example budgets, trips and dates, income and account amounts, and checklist ticks. These are financial details about you, so please enter only what the tools ask for, and never identifying numbers such as Social Security, passport, tax identification, account or card numbers;
  • which lessons you opened and completed.

When you buy a course

  • what you bought, the price, the date, and the payment status and reference our payment processor, Stripe, sends us. Stripe collects your card details directly; we never see or store your full card number.

When you accept the Terms of Use and this policy

  • the version of each document you accepted, the date and time, the IP address you used, and your browser's description of itself (its "user agent"). We keep this as proof of what you agreed to.

Automatically, when you visit

  • Cookies: only the two the site needs to work: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a security cookie that protects forms (CSRF). We don't use advertising, analytics or social-media cookies or trackers.
  • Server logs: your IP address, browser, the pages requested and the time, used to keep the site running and secure.

When you email us: your message and email address.

We don't ask for, and you shouldn't enter, government ID numbers, account numbers or health information.

3. How we use it, and why we're allowed to

What we do with it Why we're allowed to
Run your account, save your tools, give you course access and downloads with your name on them To provide the service you asked for (our contract with you)
Process payments and refunds, keep purchase records Our contract with you, and laws on tax and accounting records
Keep a record of the terms and policy versions you accepted Our legitimate interest in showing what was agreed, and legal obligations
Send emails you need about your account or purchases Our contract with you
Keep the site secure, prevent abuse, fix problems Our legitimate interest in a safe, working site
Answer your messages Our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in helping you

We don't use your information for advertising, we don't build marketing profiles, and we don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that run the site for us, under contracts that limit their use of it:

  • Amazon Web Services (United States): hosting of the site and its database, and sending email.
  • Stripe (United States): payments. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what it collects at checkout.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or to a company that takes over i"Expat Academy", which would have to follow this policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Where it's kept

Your information is stored in the United States. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere, your information is transferred to the United States so we can provide the service you asked for. Our service providers use safeguards for these transfers, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

6. How long we keep it

Information How long
Account, profile, saved tools, course progress Until you delete your account
Purchase and refund records 7 years, for tax and accounting law
Records of the terms and policy versions you accepted While your account exists and for 7 years after, to show what was agreed
Server logs Up to 90 days
Backups Overwritten within 14 days
Emails you send us Up to 3 years after the conversation ends

7. Your choices and rights

For everyone:

  • See and download your information: "Download my data" on your profile page gives you a file of everything we hold about your account.
  • Correct it: change your profile and tool inputs at any time.
  • Delete your account: "Delete my account" on your profile page deletes your account, profile, saved tools and progress straight away. We keep only the purchase records and acceptance records described in section 6.
  • Ask us anything about your information at expat@iapollo.com.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to our use of your information based on legitimate interests, to restrict it, and to receive it in a portable format, and you can complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL, cnil.fr).

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others), you have the right to know what we collect, to access, correct and delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We don't sell or share it in those ways. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

We'll answer requests within one month (or the time your law allows), and we may need to confirm your identity first, usually by email to the address on your account.

8. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only as hashes, limit who can reach the database, and keep backups. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.

9. Children

The site is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think a child has given us information, email expat@iapollo.com and we'll delete it.

10. Versions of this policy

Each version of this policy has a version number and an effective date, shown at the top. Earlier versions stay available on the site. When we publish a new version, we'll ask you to review and accept it the next time you sign in.

11. Contact

Email expat@iapollo.com about anything in this policy. Postal mail: Apollo Consulting Inc., Illinois, United States.
