Two-Home Budget Planner

Run a US home in dollars and a home in Spain, Portugal or France in euros on one budget, month by month, with every figure in both currencies. Some costs follow you (groceries, dining out, getting around); others keep running in the home you've left (rent on a lease you keep, insurance, internet). This planner keeps the two apart, so you see what the year really costs.

Your two homes

Dollars per euro from your bank or transfer service. Blank uses the ECB rate.
Months you live in Europe
Every other month is spent in your US home.
Positive: the euro gets stronger (your dollar buys less in Europe).

Monthly costs

US home in dollars, home in Europe in euros. "All year" lines are paid every month whether you're there or not (rent on a lease you keep, insurance, internet). "Months there" lines are paid only while you live in that home. The starting amounts are an example for a retired couple: replace them with yours.

Leave out income tax: it isn't a living cost here, and the tax tools work it out separately.

1 EUR = 1.1193 USD · 1 USD = €0.8934 ECB euro foreign exchange reference rate, 23 Oct 2026

Euro amounts are converted at this rate and are estimates. Currency moves change what your life in Europe costs in dollars: a weaker dollar makes it more expensive.

4 months in Spain, 8 in the US. 36% of your spending is in euros, so that share moves with the exchange rate. Keeping the home you're not living in costs $30,383 (€27,145) a year: the all-year lines you pay while you're away.

What each month costs, in dollars. Months in Europe carry both homes' all-year costs plus your living costs there.

If the euro moves +10%

At 1.2312 dollars per euro, the year costs $93,687, $3,237 more than at today's rate. Only the euro-priced home changes; the US home stays in dollars.
